For the third and final episode of the project, Pierluigi Calignano will build in the Wascherei a new installation from the series "Sleeping Structures". Interested in anatomy and support structures, the artist includes little defects and allows chance elements in the planning process of the installation. The work therefore becomes an autonomous entity, which refuses any predetermined form, but in turn can assume a number of different and unpredictable configurations. The relation appears to be somehow subverted: the artist has to listen to the different possibilities the structure can offer, in order to asses what results he can obtain by phisically interacting with it.
Damian Navarro starts from a personal memory form childhood to realize an uncanny object, neither sculpture nor device, but rather a sophisticated anachronism, which appears coherently interwoven with his interest in conceptual art and minimal structures. Combining a multi-layered accumulation of references with random associations and intimate reflections, Navarro produces an autonomous image, where abstraction functions mainly as a methodological tool, rather than a predefined aesthetic result.
Performing Structures is an exhibition project exploring the terrain in between improvisation technique and artistic practice. It presents installations, wall paintings, objects and drawings generated by a denseentanglement of gestures, intentions and materials, where multiple layers of free associations and heuristic structures collide.
Performing Structuresis a project immersed in time flow – the time to reflect, to solve problems and imagine developments. Projects are put to the test as artists engage with materials in a process of listening and reacting – with physical qualities and structural requirements setting their rules and limits. Be it drawing or site specific structure, the narrative element is not a tale to be told, but the chronicle of a series of actions and inventive solutions - and the work on display an index of them all.
